Mike Hettinger - Candidate for Molonglo
Mike Hettinger ran as a Labor candidate in the 2004 ACT election, nearly winning an historic fourth seat for Labor in Molonglo.
Mike is a member of a Community Fire Unit, Pedal Power, National Parks Association, the Motorcycle Riders Association, and attends local community councils. Mike has been active in a number of community campaigns and serves on the ACT Executive Committee of the UN Association.
Mike's 14-year career in the APS has seen him: promote science awareness; organise a Cooperative Research Centre for Bushfire Research; and receive an Australia Day Achievement Medallion for contributing to space industry development
Before migrating to Australia, Mike was a US Air Force Officer. Citations include the US National Defense Service Medal for Operations Desert Shield/Storm and the Air Force Achievement Medal for saving the lives of two Soviet research divers.
Mike’s education includes a Bachelors Degree in Physics from the College of the Holy Cross, and Masters Degrees in Public Administration from the University of Colorado, and International Relations from the ANU.
